Dr. Joseph Varghese Kusumalayam CMI has been associated with Sacred Heart College since 2014. He holds a Master’s degree in English Language and Literature and a doctoral degree from the University of Mumbai. Before transitioning to academia, Dr. Kusumalayam served for nearly 6 years in the Diocese of Mumbai as a parish priest and youth animator. His research interests encompass education, religion, philosophy, modern and postmodern novels, children’s literature, and psychology, with several publications in peer-reviewed international journals.

Within Sacred Heart College, Dr. Kusumalayam is actively engaged in both curricular and extracurricular activities. He coordinates the Scholar Support Programme (SSP), Add-On programmes, agriculture club, drama club, and cycle club. Additionally, he serves as the NSS Programme officer for the academic year 2020-23, having received consecutive Best NSS Programme Officer awards from MG University for 2021-2022 and 2022-2023. In 2018-2019, he was honoured with the Best Student Service award for his dedication to the student community.

Dr. Kusumalayam’s scholarly contributions extend to Scopus-indexed and UGC CARE-listed journals, and he serves as a research guide under Mahatma University from 2021. He is actively involved in various social service activities, particularly those related to environmental causes. Furthermore, Dr. Kusumalayam is an accomplished marathon runner, having completed more than 20 half marathons.
